Laws and Regulations Governing the Goods of Passengers
Departing passengers, either Iranian or non-Iranian, are authorized to take abroad Iranian products for any amount they wish and non-Iranian products for the amount that has been determined by law, provided that the products, whether Iranian or Non-Iranian, are not business commodities. This is in addition to their personal things that can take with themselves.
Regulations Governing Departing Passengers Goods
Each passport holder is authorized to have 10kg dried fruits and 100g zafaran. Passengers are not allowed to take pistachio, grained pistachio and zaferan to holy cities in Iraq and other countries.
Passengers are allowed to take abroad the hand-woven carpets of no larger than 20 square meters in size. Yet there is no limitations on the number of carpets and it does not limit the above limitation about size. In addition to air borders, carpets are authorized to be taken abroad through land and sea borders as well. However, it is unlawful to take abroad the exceptional carpets with national and historical values. Also it is unlawful to take carpets to Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia.
Passengers are allowed to take aborad 150 g gold as personal thing and 3kg silver products and vessels as gift or souvenir providing that they are not of exceptional national and historical value. If the they are ornamented with precious stones such as diamond, sapphire and emerald total weight must not exceed one carat.
Objects of Cultural, Artistic and Antiquity Values It is unlawful to take abroad: antiques, original artistic works, manuscripts and lithography books, calligraphy works, miniature works, precious coins and generally any products (such as CDS etc.) being subject to copyright by Ministry of Culture and anything with exceptional value historically or nationally.
Arriving Passengers
According to Article 138 of Executive Bylaw of Customs Law, goods of no more than 80 dollars in value (annual) would be exempted from customs due.
Importation of Iranian National Money (Rials) and Foreign Currency
Foreign currency: it is permissible to import physically all bank documents (suc h as checks, certified checks, travel check and other forms of financial transferable documents) as well as non-registered securities such as bonds up to 10,000 euros or its evquivalent in other currencies. This importation does not require reporting to customs administration.
