Zardkooh Mountain Range is part of the Middle Zagros Mountains in the west of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province. There are several peaks with an altitude of over 4000 meters in this mountain range. The famous peaks of Zardkooh mountain range are: Kolunchin, Haft Tanan, Shah Shahidan and Do Zardeh. Another feature of Zardkooh mountain range is that the longest mountain glaciers in the country are located in this mountain range.
Kolunchin (Kolunchy) peak is the highest peak of Zardkooh mountain range with a height of about 4220 meters above sea level.
To climb Kolunchin Peak, you must first reach the site of the second Koohrang Dam and Tunnel. The origin of two ascent routes to Kolunchin is located near this place. The route of the eastern valley of the mountain, which is called Kul Khadang Strait, as well as the route of Khersan refuge, which passes through the eastern edge of the mountain are routes that start from near the second dam and tunnel of Koohrang river.
In the ascent that we had to Kolunchin peak in August 2020 through Kul Khadang Strait, we walked about four kilometers through continuous and uniform glaciers along Kul Khadang valley to reach the lower part of Kolunchin peak cone.
