Hormuz Island is not a very big island and the road that goes around the island is about 35 km long. Of course, there are so many natural attractions along this road on the island of Hormuz that if you want to visit them all, it is better to spend at least two days.

In this tour we are going to visit some seductive attractions of Hormoz Island , included Hormuz Town, Portuguese Fort, salt cave, Rahnbow Valley, The valley of statues and Red Coast.

Hormoz town, with women artists

Hormoz town is the only settlement on Hormoz Island. Hormoz town is located right at the northern tip of Hormoz Island. This town has its own special attractions that are not limited to the natural attractions of Hormoz Island.

Except for the historic Portuguese fort, which is located on the outskirts of Hormoz town, the most important and attractive feature of Hormoz town is the art of women in this city, which is mainly expressed in the form of paintings.

The women of Hormoz Island attract attention with their colorful clothes. The handicraft art of these Hormozi ladies is wonderful. In a few minutes, the most beautiful and delicate paintings are painted with henna on the hands and feet of tourists. Using the colored soils of the island, they create the most beautiful patterns on the glass. Also they have the art of needlework and working on fabric. Finally, they offer their handicrafts for sale to tourists. The colored soils of the island are also placed in glass bottles in various colored layers for tourists to buy and take as souvenirs.

From the Hormoz pier, when you enter the small town of Hormoz at the very beginning, a small building with beautiful murals attract your attention. This is Jerry Pulak Historical House. Then, next to the Portuguese castle, you will see women from the island presenting their works of art on a table in front of them while wearing beautiful and colorful local clothes. A painting behind glass is one of these works of art.

In an alley inside the city of Hormoz, you see the museum of Dr. Ahmad Nadalian, which is also a center for painting education and a workshop for Hormoz women. Dr. Ahmad Nadalian, who has a PhD in painting philosophy and environmental painting from England, has been living in Hormoz for many years to teach painting to Hormoz women and help them create jobs.

The beauty of the art of Hormoz women and the beauty of Dr. Nadalian’s services in this region are a good complement to the beauty of the nature of Hormoz Island.

Portuguese Fort in Hormuz Island

The Portuguese fort is located right at the northern tip of the island of Hormuz and is five hundred years old. From the time when the Portuguese forces forcibly occupied the islands of Hormuz and Qeshm five hundred years ago until they were finally driven out of the islands by the naval forces of Shah Abbas, for about 110 years, these islands were occupied by the Portuguese forces. During this period, they built military forts on these two islands. Many parts of the Portuguese fort in Hormuz are still intact and there is even their artillery.

Hormoz Salt Cave

From the Hormoz town to the road around the island of Hormoz on the west side of the island, in the first half of the route and before reaching the rainbow valley and the valley of statues, the salt cave of Hormoz is located on the left side of the road.

After entering the short opening of the cave, you have to crawl to explore the cave.  White and colored streaks of salt on the cave wall make it beautiful.

Rainbow Valley

Rainbow Valley is somewhere in the middle of Hormoz Island and its access route is from the west coast road of the island. This valley is one of the famous tourist places in Hormoz Island. In the heart of this valley, when you walk on foot, you can see a wide variety of colors in the mountains, the ground and the walls of the valley.

The soil and rocks of Hormoz Island are a combination of salt deposits on volcanic, clayey and sedimentary rocks. Sedimentary rocks of Hormoz Island are generally made of iron oxide compounds. The reason for the diversity and luster of colors in this island is the concurrence of volcanic, salt, clay and iron rocks in this island.

Valley of statues

The valley of statues is located on the western coast of Hormoz Island, and in the weak walls of this valley, due to erosion, shapes similar to statues or sculptures of animals have been created.

To visit the the valley of statues, enter the side of a road that runs west along the western side of Hormoz Island. This dirt road via a narrow and shallow valley  takes you to a point on the heighs above the west coast of Qeshm Island. During the trek in this road, you will see the beautiful shapes created by erosion in the walls on both sides of the path. Landing is not possible from this height and you have to go back the way.

The Red Coast of Hormuz

Hormoz Island is one of the few places in Iran where every few hundred meters you move, the texture of the earth and the shape and designs of the surrounding nature become different or in a different color.

Hormoz Island should be called a colored island because the color of the soil, land and mountains in any part of the island become varied to red, orange, yellow, white and black.

The Red Soil and Red Coast mines are located on the southern coast of the island of Hormuz. The Red Soil mine has become like a deep valley due to the intensity of its soil harvest (for use in the ceramics industry or for export to other countries).

The Red Coast in the south of Hormoz Island is one of the most visited places on the island. The whole large beach is red in color, and even this redness can be seen in some of the waters near the beach.

The red soil of Hormoz, which the locals call Gelak, is used as a spice in cooking.
