Iranian Forests
Although a large part of Iran is desert, but at the same time Iran has significant forest cover on the northern slopes of the Alborz and Zagros Mountains.
The Hyrcanian forests of northern Iran, located between the Alborz Mountains and the Caspian Sea, have a remarkable variety of tree species, some of which are millions of years old. Oak forests on the slopes of the Zagros Mountains are another type of forest in Iran. These forests have created beautiful landscapes, especially in the provinces of Kurdistan and Lorestan. Apart from these, numerous other forest areas can be found in different parts of Iran, such as Arasbaran forests in the north of East Azerbaijan province and mangrove forests in the south of Iran and on the shores of the Persian Gulf.
