The city of Sanandaj is the capital of Kurdistan province. The current city of Sanandaj was founded in the Safavid and Qajar periods, and a number of historical monuments in the old context of the city belong to these two periods, such as the Grand Mosque (Dar al-Ehsan Mosque) and the house of Moshir Divan and the monastery of Khorshid Laqa Khanom.
The local language of the people of Sanandaj is Surani Kurdish with Ardalan dialect and the religion of the majority of its people is Sunni from the Shafi’i branch.
